Naga Rum – Mystical Creatures in Every Sip

Naga Rum – Mystical Creatures in Every Sip

Did you know that the name "Naga" comes from Indian mythology? Nagas, the serpent deities, are believed to be guardians of nature’s treasures, symbolizing prosperity and fertility. These mythical beings often appear as either fully serpentine or as half-human, half-serpent entities.

Naga Rum – A Taste of Indonesia’s Rich History

Long before sugarcane fields dotted the Caribbean, before gin was distilled in London, and even before the word "alcohol" was coined, people were already enjoying Arrack. In the late 15th century, Portuguese and Dutch traders arrived on the island of Java and discovered a secret recipe that allowed the fermentation and distillation of molasses. Thus, Batavia Arrack was born—named after Batavia, now Jakarta, Indonesia's capital.

What sets Naga Rum apart? The unique addition of fermented red rice, known as Qu or Chu, during the molasses fermentation process, along with traditional Chinese distillation methods. After distillation, the rum is aged in terracotta jars, giving it a distinctive character. There are even records suggesting that Batavia Arrack was first purchased by English traders in 1634 and brought to Europe.

Raise a glass and let the mystical essence of Naga Rum transport you to the rich cultural heritage of Indonesia!
