Glenrothes Peated Cask Reserve

Glenrothes Peated Cask Reserve

A Unique Speyside Meets Islay Experiment

The Glenrothes Peated Cask Reserve is a fascinating expression born from a remarkable discovery in the distillery's archives. While exploring its rich history, Glenrothes uncovered an early connection with the Islay Distillery Company dating back to 1887. Inspired by this historical link, the distillery created a whisky that elegantly bridges the gap between Speyside refinement and Islay peat influence.

A Vintage Given a Peaty Twist

For this innovative release, Glenrothes selected whisky from the acclaimed 1992 Vintage and transferred it into a cask sourced from the peaty shores of Islay. The whisky remained there for just the right amount of time, allowing subtle layers of peat smoke to develop without overshadowing the distillery's signature character.

The result is a beautifully balanced single malt where gentle smoky notes intertwine with Glenrothes' classic fruit-forward style. Rich orchard fruits, honey, vanilla, and soft oak mingle effortlessly with delicate wisps of campfire smoke, creating a whisky that is both distinctive and approachable.

Elegance with a Kiss of Smoke

Unlike heavily peated whiskies, the Peated Cask Reserve focuses on harmony rather than intensity. The peat acts as an accent, enhancing the whisky's natural sweetness and complexity while adding an extra dimension of depth.

A First for Glenrothes

This release marked a significant milestone for the distillery, representing its first exploration into peated cask finishing. Given the outstanding results, many whisky enthusiasts have wondered whether it might inspire future experiments.

For collectors and lovers of both Speyside and Islay styles, Glenrothes Peated Cask Reserve offers a rare opportunity to experience the best of both worlds in a single dram.
