This single malt shows how much a finish can add to a young whisky. After maturing in American oak, the spirit spends extra time in small quarter casks that previously held rye whiskey. Quarter casks give a higher ratio of wood to liquid, so the rye spice comes through faster and stronger. The result is a golden malt with warming spice on top of GlenAllachie's honeyed, buttery character.
About GlenAllachie
GlenAllachie is a Speyside distillery near Aberlour, founded in 1967. Since 2017 it has been independently owned, led by master distiller Billy Walker. The distillery is known for its attention to cask quality and for bottling at generous strengths, without chill filtration or added colouring. This 8 Year Old was part of its first Wood Finish range, launched in 2019.
