Ever seen the Maxwell house?
The Maxwell House Decanter was considered one of the most beautiful of its time and oddly enough it was not Jack Daniel who was responsible for designing it. That honor instead went to Lem Motlow. The origin of this decanter’s name dates back to the year 1859 when Colonel John Overton Jr. began construction on a new hotel in downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
Over the years, the Maxwell House Hotel became a well-known stopping point for famous people passing through the South. Lem Motlow knew of the hotel’s popularity and prestige and saw this as a business opportunity for the Distillery…
To commemorate the decanter that Lem Motlow first presented to Colonel Overton, the Distillery released a half gallon replica bottle in 1971.
Enjoy fresh during the summer: bourbons
American Bourbons are also often eaten "on the rocks" with ice cubes or with whiskey stones. Perfect for summer.
Spiced currant and orange zest!
Tamdhu is well-known and much-adored for its excellent use of sherry casks, and those of you with a penchant for single malt with heavy sherry influence will be delighted to know that the distillery's 15 Year Old expression continues that theme. This one has spent is maturation in oloroso sherry casks, resulting in generous helpings of dark fruit and spice.
A rare marriage?
The Balvenie introduced Rare Marriages range, with the Twenty-Five hero product. The Balvenie unveiled the new Twenty-Five in tribute to exceptional vintage casks and flavour – part of the Rare Marriages range.
As the saying goes, ‘the height of sophistication is simplicity’ and with a career spanning six decades mastering his craft The Balvenie Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE’s new range of premium Single Malts is the epitome of this concept.
The Rare Marriages range is a tribute to David’s dedication to designing and building exceptional flavour, through the marriage of rare casks.
Are you a warrior?
This expression is named in honour of Sigurd who was considered amongst the strongest and most courageous warriors and the most feared of the Viking Earls.
This single malt has many layers of flavours, rich fruit cake, marmalade, subtle hints of smoke that is quite delicate. The linger is rather lengthy, with hints of toasted raisin bread, ginger and soft sherry spice on the palate.
Stunning single cask
This stunning single cask release from the Glenfarclas distillery was created in Speyside in 1981 before being matured in a port cask for 35 years. The results are a delicious, fruity and moreish whisky that has heavy port influence backed up by a certain woodiness that you only find in whiskies aged for long periods. This beauty comes packaged in a classy black box that would stand out in any collection. Only 521 bottles were produced and they were bottled at a cask strength of 47.9%, making this a collectible, honest and accomplished dram.
Anybody seen the wolf?
Sometimes at Wolfburn they have the odd special cask that delivers a distinctively good whisky. Perhaps one that nature has intended to mature in its own special way or a different type of cask. To make sure these whiskies get their own stage to be shared and enjoyed tehy have created The Kylver Series.
Named after a burial stone that features one of the earliest examples of the Viking runic alphabet and to reflect the history of Caithness that surrounds us, The Kylver Series will grow as Wolfburn grows and chart the journey through the years ahead.
After Echo and the Bunnymen: The Pogues..
The Pogues is the official Irish whiskey of the legendary band. The whisky is made in Skibbereen, in the west of Cork. A blended whiskey that is sweet and intense with notes of malt and cracked nuts. The Pogues was an Irish-English folk/punk band. The band was formed in 1984 and was certainly not without controversy. Unfortunately, the head singer repeatedly lapsed into alcoholism, which led to many gigs being cancelled prematurely.
Spare us the cutter
The Cutter is not only a beautiful song by Echo and the Bunnymen, it is also a a hand tool used to cut peat from less wet, shallower bogs.
As the lyrrics in the song by Echo and the Bunnymen:
Brewing alternatives
What's in the bottom drawer
Waiting for things to give
Spare us the cutter
We will not be spared...
A heavily peated scotch, Ancnoc Cutter boasting phenol content of 20.5 PPM and matured in the finest x-bourbon casks. Named after the tool used to hand cut peat, this earthy number has fruit flavours entwined with the smoky peat, and has a beautifully long smoky finish that is simply bliss.
If you are not looking for traditions: Smokehead
Unique and disruptive Smokehead thinking has led to some convention challenging whiskies over the years, that don't follow the usual traditions and ritual. An islay Single Malt Whiksy that's an assault on your senses.
So if you refuse to conform tot the rules of normal whisky drinking, and are seeking out somethinh more uncommon, Smokhead iw where that pig-headed inquistiveness gets rewarded.
What did the bourbon say to the almonds?
Am I drunk or are you nuts?
Simply put, bourbon is American whiskey made from corn. Written with -ey. The corn, not nuts, gives the bourbon a sweeter taste compared to other whiskeys. This gives bourbon a smoky and caramel-rich taste. But bourbon is subject to a number of strict rules. The following points are important when you can call whiskey bourbon.
Bourbon = 5 conditions
Is made in America
Contains a minimum of 51% corn
Has no ageing minimum. For straight bourbon it is two years
Does not contain other drinks or colourings
Has an alcohol content below 80% in the second distillation of the production process. Bourbon contains 60-70% alcohol

Michel Couvreur, Made in France Whisky?
Michel Couvreur had a very personal, and truly revolutionary vision of what whisky should be: more than terroir, more than the distiller’s touch, it was the maturing in oak casks that truly helped the grain spirit become whisky.
From 1978 on, having settled in the French region of Burgundy, he decided to make it his life’s work and to dedicate his research to a process which he once compared to cross-fertilisation.

In search of the spirit of the Carribbean? Rum Nation, single domaine rum.
The 'spirit' of the Caribbean, Central and Latin America, distilled from sugar cane and which for more than three centuries has been skilfully transformed into rum, Ron or Rum.
If you want more, you go Octomore?
Octomore single malts have defied received whisky wisdom since they were first distilled in 2002. Sometimes bottled bold and brazen at 5 years old, always super heavily peated and cask strength, every edition is a liquid embodiment of ‘The Impossible Equation’. Bruihladdich challenged preconceptions of what constitutes quality whisky. In each new set of four they consider the elements that contribute towards the depth and balance of each youthful drop. Is it the sourcing of the raw ingredients? Is it the careful selection of the wood’s quality and style? Or is it in the influence of nature; weather, climate, soil?
Polarised opinions… exposure to criticism…the inevitable in the hopes of unlocking new realms of flavour. Those who join in adopting this mindset, that quiet confidence, will receive organoleptic rewards for risks taken.

There is always a sun-tory
The first single grain whisky from the House of Suntory Whisky. Continuing 40 years of excellence in distilling Japanese grain whiskies at Chita distillery, the House of Suntory Whisky's Master Blenders have created an outstanding single grain whisky. In1972, on the shores of Chita peninsula, Keizo Saji—Suntory’s second Master Blender—built a distillery dedicated to creating the highest quality Japanese grain whisky. With verstile flavours and exquisite balance, Chita grain whiskies have traditionally been used as the "dashi" or broth that enhances the harmony of Suntory blends.Through continuous research and innovation, Chita’s grain whiskies have achieved an unrivaled sophistication and a level of complexity that lets them finally take center stage. Nose: Crème brûlée, cardamom, acacia honey, blossoming rose. Taste: Mild and smooth, hint of mint, deep honey. Finish: Clean and clear, spiced oak with subtle bittersweet notes.

The Stillman's Dram
Fettercairn Distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Ramsay, owner of the Fasque estate, who converted a corn mill at Nethermill into a distillery. Situated under the Grampian foothills in the Howe of Mearns, Fettercairn town’s name is loosely based on the phrase "the foot of the mountain". Fettercairn is owned by Whyte & Mackay Distillers.
This old bottling of Fettercairn was part of Whyte & Mackay's now-defunct Stillman's Dram series from about ten years ago. Distilled by Fettercairn and then matured for 26 years before bottling. At a volume of 45% ABV this whisky is bottled at an optimal drinking strength.
Purity is a rare thing - worth striving for.
Each release of Fettercairn single malt whisky showcases a maturation journey that enhances the tropical distillery character derived from our unique copper cooling ring distillation process.
The founder, Sir Alexander Ramsay was one of the Scottish landowners who campaigned to license Scotch Whisky distillation. In 1824, he was one of the first to apply for a license, and the Fettercairn distillery was opened.
But despite Ramsay’s campaigning for regulation, he was a canny businessman, and he recruited illegal whisky makers to be his first stillmen. He recognised only they had the knowledge and skills he needed. So, from our very beginnings, the have been doing things a little differently in the pursuit of great whisky.
This is a beautiful example of an exceptionally refind Scottish whisky.
A Rum House from Belgium?
La Maison Du Rhum was founded in 2002 by John Van Der Pluym, a great rum lover. He fell into the pot during a professional trip to the West Indies 32 years ago. With his years of experience in the import-export of exotic food products and some West Indian rum, John decided to launch himself on the rum distribution market in Belgium by founding his own company. The start is made with some well-known brands in the pocket: Trois Rivières, Séverin, Montebello and Caraibos fruit juices.
In just a few years, the Maison du Rhum has specialised in the development and marketing to the traditional network, with the exclusive distribution of more than 20 brands of rum composed of flavours and origins from all over the world, it is considered a pioneer in the Belgian spirits distribution sector.
More affordable whisky from Campeltown?
In the more affordable category for whiskies from Campbeltown.
J & A Mitchell are a whisky company with an incredible pedigree. The family firm have been owner-operators of the legendary Springbank distillery since 1837 and are the parent company of Scotland's oldest independent bottler, Wm. Cadenhead. Through these channels alone, their output is nothing short of reverential, and this is before you even consider the casks they sold to independent companies like Samaroli through their R.W. Duthie arm, and to Japan via their Eaglesome company's Kingsbury brands. Many if not all of these are legendary. The company now owns a second distillery in Campbeltown, Glengyle, which is the home of Kilkerran single malt.
This is a blended Scotch, likely containing a proportion of Springbank single malt, and bottled using the company's trademark "parchment" style labels of the 1990s.
