Octomore 16.2

€187,50
Tax included.

Octomore 16.2 is where Bruichladdich's progressive spirit truly shines. This enigmatic release takes the world's most heavily peated single malt and explores its interaction with the world's most expressive wine casks.

While the 16.1 is the pure form and the 16.3 is the taste of terroir, the 16.2 is an experiment in flavour alchemy. The foundational spirit, matured in ex-bourbon American oak, is recasked into prestigious wine barriques for a final finishing period. This process creates a dramatic and complex whisky where intense peat smoke dances with layers of dark fruit, spice, and tannic structure.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: A captivating bouquet of earthy peat and sweet wine notes. Think crushed berries, plum, and grape skin intertwined with classic Octomore vanilla, mint, and ashy smoke.
  • Palate: A bold and rich mouthfeel. The initial wave of smoky, earthy peat is seamlessly joined by flavours from the wine casks—think dark chocolate, stewed fruits, blackcurrant, and a distinctive spiciness (e.g., black pepper if Syrah, honeyed sweetness if Sauternes).
  • Finish: Exceptionally long and evolving. The smoke lingers as embers, while the wine influence leaves a dry, fruity, and spicy tail, with notes of oak tannin and a hint of salinity.

Why This Whisky Stands Out

  • The Wine Cask Experiment: Showcases the dramatic interaction between super-heavy peat and influential wine casks.
  • Uniquely Complex Profile: Offers a darker, fruitier, and spicier dimension not found in the other 16-series expressions.
  • Limited & Experimental: Each 16.2 release is a unique exploration, making it a highly collectible one-off.
  • A Connoisseur's Challenge: Pushes the boundaries of what peated whisky can be.
