Warm to the second power?

Warm to the second power?

There is heat at the front and back of the picture. With greater complexity than the younger whiskies, this is a great whisky drinker’s whisky. Glenfarclas family bottled this at 46% simply because the grandfather preferred it at this strength. It’s still a family favourite.   In his 2007 Whisky Bible, Jim Murray gave Glenfarclas 15 Years Old a score of 95/100, one of the highest scores he has awarded.

A black bottle on black friday?

Springbank 12 Year Old Decanter 1980s Springbank distillery has been owned and operated by the Mitchell family in Campbeltown since 1837, and it one of Scotland's most revered distilleries. Following a brief mothballing between 1979 and 1987, upon the reopening the decision was taken to cease all sales to the blending industry and focus on its single malt sales. Today it is the only distillery to malt, distil, bottle and mature whisky on the same site, and produces three distinct and highly prized single malts.   A classic Springbank, this 12 year old was released in a black branded flagon decanter.

Glenrothes John Ramsay

Glenrothes John Ramsay

We opened our Glenrohtes Vault "from before... a certain spirits CY took over.." A very special whisky from Glenrothes, named for their outgoing malt master John Ramsay. This whisky is the best of the best; John selected twenty second fill American oak casks and vatted them into sherry butts. A further two were selected from there and were vatted, and reduced to 46.7 to provide this superb bottling. It's a perfect tribute, and a truly delicious Glenrothes.

Some sunshine in a bottle, during these darker days?

Some sunshine in a bottle, during these darker days?

Caribbean Cask has been matured in traditional oak whisky casks for 14 years, and then ‘finished’ in casks that previously held Caribbean rum. To create the ideal finish Malt Master David Stewart, filled American oak casks with his own blend of select West Indian rums. When he judged the casks to be ready, the rum was replaced with the 14 year old spirit and the wood was put to work adding the final touches. The result is an exceptional single malt whisky with the traditional smooth, honeyed character of The Balvenie, married with notes of toffee and a hint of fruit, with a warm, lingering finish.

In the mood for some Glen Garioch

In the mood for some Glen Garioch

One of the oldest operating distilleries in Scotland – and its most easterly – Glen Garioch (pronounced Geery in the ancient Doric dialect still spoken in these parts) has been making its mighty malt in the quaint and historic market town of Oldmeldrum, near Aberdeen in North East Scotland, ever since 1797. Shielded from the world’s prying eyes, deep in the fertile ‘Granary of Aberdeenshire’, and only ever produced in small, precious batches, Glen Garioch is a rare find indeed, but warmly appreciated by those who like a hearty Highland malt, non chill-filtered as nature intended, with a wholesome maltiness, honeyed sweetness and delicious creamy texture to savour.

Triple distilled at the Springbank distillery, a rare first edition available.

Springbank distillery is one of the last surviving producers of Campbeltown Single Malts. The distillery, located on the southern Kintyre peninsula, produces three distinct types of single malt Scotch whisky. Springbank is one of only two distilleries in Scotland to perform every step in the whisky making process, from malting the barley to bottling the spirit, on same premises: the other is Kilchoman Distillery who also grow their own barley. While a few others still maintain the first step in the process, the malting of barley (which is becoming more rare), Springbank also bottles their own whisky. Three variants of single malt are produced from its distillery by tweaking the production process at various stages; Springbank Single Malt is the most popular variety, Longrow Single Malt is a highly-peated, double-distilled whisky and Hazelburn Single Malt, the newest variety. Triple distilled at the Springbank distillery, Hazelburn's 12 year old unpeated single malt whisky is one of three malts produced at the distillery in Campbeltown.

Kurayoshi the foothills of Mt. Daisen, here has a fine water that is indispensable for whisky distilling. Kurayoshi, called that "Life is good" is the origin of the word, but the annual temperature range in the Sea of Japan side is large, and the aging of whisky also advances quickly compared to the actual situation like Islay Island. It is no exaggeration to say that whiskey is made by barrel and the nature. Our distillery is not big, we have a small number of staff, however, we will continue to strive all the staff with the desire to deliver the best whisky.

In search of old and rare whiskies created by unique experience?

Established as a grocery business in 1895 in the heart of Scotland’s Speyside region, they originally curated all manner of groceries from around the world such as teas, coffees, wines and whisky. Their appreciation of the rich tapestry of flavours they encountered led the founders, James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail, to seek out and complement this varied stock with equally fine produce in the form of Speyside’s many and varied single malt Scotch whiskies.  For over 125 years and four generations of family ownership, Gordon & MacPhail has matched spirit from over 100 Scottish distilleries to its own bespoke casks. It is this unique depth and breadth of experience that enables us to combine oak, spirit and time to create a portfolio of iconic whiskies found nowhere else in the world.

Whisky in a decanter?

Hugely popular in times gone by, the days of the Scotch ceramic whisky decanter would seem to have passed. Nonetheless, certain of these decanters have remained extremely valuable due to their rarity and/or the quality of the whisky within, including the now-discontinued Bell's Decanters series.  Here is a fine example: Glenfiddich 18 Year Old Ancient Reserve Black Ceramic Decanter A bottle of Glenfiddich 18 Year Old presented in a black ceramic decanter by English pottery company, Spode.
