Tomatin Cù Bòcan 15 Year Old Oloroso Sherry Cask, 2022 Edition: Smoke, Sherry and Sun-Dried Fruit

Tomatin Cù Bòcan 15 Year Old Oloroso Sherry Cask, 2022 Edition: Smoke, Sherry and Sun-Dried Fruit

Back to Where It All Began

Cù Bòcan holds a special place in Tomatin's history. The name, and the whisky itself, reach back to the distillery's earliest days — to when Tomatin first produced a lightly-turfed spirit in the depths of mid-winter. The 15 Year Old Oloroso Sherry Cask edition is a tribute to that origin, bringing the style back in a fully mature, fully realised form.

Full Maturation in Oloroso Sherry

Unlike many peated expressions that lean on a short finishing period, this Cù Bòcan has been fully matured in Oloroso Sherry casks for the entire 15 years. That distinction matters: full maturation allows the sherry influence to integrate completely with the spirit, rather than simply sitting on the surface.

The result is a whisky where smoke and sherry aren't competing elements, but a single, cohesive character built slowly over a decade and a half.

Tasting Notes

The flavour speaks for itself: decadent notes of sun-dried fruits mingle with smoky, exotic spices, creating a whisky that's rich, warming and distinctly layered. The finish is long and satisfying, the kind that invites a slow second sip rather than a quick one.

It's a profile that bridges two whisky traditions — the smoky, maritime character often associated with peated Highland and Island whiskies, and the dried-fruit, Christmas-cake sweetness typical of sherry-matured Speyside malts.

A Highland Whisky With Island Character

Tomatin, based in the Highlands, isn't traditionally known for peated whisky — which is exactly what makes the Cù Bòcan range so interesting. It shows a different, lightly-turfed side of Highland distilling, one rooted in the distillery's own history rather than imitation of Islay or the Isles.

Who Is This Whisky For?

This 2022 Edition is ideal for whisky drinkers who enjoy smoky single malts but want something richer and fruitier than a typical peated dram. It also appeals strongly to sherry cask enthusiasts looking for a style with an added smoky dimension.
