Port Charlotte PC8 Ar Dùthchas – Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt

Port Charlotte PC8 Ar Dùthchas – Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt

Port Charlotte PC8 Ar Dùthchas – Heavily Peated Whisky with Heritage

The Port Charlotte PC8 Ar Dùthchas is a landmark release in the early Port Charlotte series and a bold statement of Islay identity. Produced by Bruichladdich Distillery, this heavily peated single malt takes its name from the Gaelic phrase meaning “our heritage”—a fitting tribute to traditional Islay whisky-making.

Matured in a combination of wine casks and ex-bourbon barrels, PC8 builds on the foundation laid by earlier releases while adding greater depth and refinement. On the nose, dense peat smoke leads the way, layered with charcoal, coastal air, dark fruit, and subtle oak sweetness. The wine casks bring richness without masking the whisky’s maritime core.

The palate is powerful and full-bodied. Intense smoke is balanced by flavours of dark berries, roasted malt, spice, and a touch of vanilla. Earthy peat, sea salt, and gentle tannins create a complex yet harmonious profile that rewards slow exploration.

The finish is long, smoky, and warming, with lingering ash, oak spice, and a hint of fruit. Port Charlotte PC8 Ar Dùthchas is a must-have for peat lovers and collectors alike—an expressive, confident Islay whisky that helped define the Port Charlotte legacy.
